DOUG BLAKE

Line Producer

After attending UCLA, Doug began to produce and/or direct music videos, commercials and segments of network television, a ten year experience which involved making over a hundred projects with such artists as The Rolling Stones, Stevie Nicks, The Beach Boys, Donna Summer, The Eagles, Little Feat, Barry White and many others. 

In 1993, Doug revamped the on-the-air look for the Business Channel, and in association with the Picture Mill completed a new version that went on the air in February 1997.  Doug went on to direct the television pilot, World Youth News.  It received a Telly Award as best children's pilot for that year.

In 1994, Doug produced his first feature film for Rhino Records and Films, MONA MUST DIE, directed by Donald Reiker, shot on a $850,000 budget.  Months later, he went on to produce, independently, the critically acclaimed THE LAST FAIR DEAL, directed by Charles Solomon, shot for $350,000.  The film premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in 1995 and was distributed by Trident Releasing.

Between 1995 and 1996, Doug line produced five made-for-television movies in association with Aspect Ratio: TREASURE ISLAND, MAUI HEAT, MADAME SAVANT, ARRANGED MARRIAGE and ROCK IN A HARD PLACE, all directed by Mike Marvin but ROCK, which was directed by Ron Moler.  In addition, he produced the opening ID for Mandalay Entertainment, four feature trailers and title sequences for Universal Pictures, two TV commercials for MGM/Ice Capades and over 50 promos for Fox Sports Net and the fX cable network (through The Picture Mill).

In the summer and fall of 1997, Doug line produced the $1.5 million dollar feature FOOTSTEPS, directed by Daphna Edwards, for AMCO Entertainment, staring Karina Lombard, Maria Conchita Alonzo and Sandra Bernhard.

In the fall of 1998, he produced extensive re-shoots for the feature SAND, staring Dennis Leary and Jon Lovitz. In the winter of 1998, he line produced the video taping of the one man show FATHER ,SON and HOLY COACH, directed by Scott Wolfe and starring John Posey

In 1999, Doug renewed his relationship with Rhino Records and Films by line-producing their $2.5 million dollar feature I KNOW WHAT YOU SHREIKED LAST FRIDAY THE 13th, directed by John Blanchard.  Shot in the spring of 1999, it secured a distribution deal with Lions Gate in December 1999. The film features Tiffani-Amber Thiessen, Tom Arnold, Coolio, Shirley Jones, Simon Rex and Julie Benz.  Next, Doug was part of the second unit/EFX production team on U-571, shot in Malta, Italy, and the United States under the supervision of Peter Donan and directed by Jonathan Mostow.

In March 2000 Doug was hired to produce a thematic musical feature in the IMAX format.  Entitled OUR COUNTRY it was made for 6.5 million dollars and features dramatic and musical sequences from over fifty platinum record earning artists including Dolly Parton, Dwight Yokum, Alan Jackson, Martina MacBride, Trisha Yearwood and many others. It was shot on location all over the United States and the west coast of Ireland. The film is  currently in distribution.

In May of 2001, Doug was hired to line produce a 24P/High Definition feature comedy entitled NEW SUIT.  It was shot during the summer of 2001 and starred Dan Hedaya, Jordon Bridges, Charles Rocket and Marisa Couglan.  He then  supervised the animated feature film SLUSHY written by Larry Karaszewski and Scott Alexander, and produced by Rhino Films.  Also with Rhino, in 2003, he line-produced a feature length high definition documentary entitled FASTER, which follows the grand prix of motorcycles.  He then went on to line produce a television pilot in Mississippi entitled The Mississippi Blues Project, hosted by Cassandra Wilson and directed by Jeff Judin.  

In 2004 his projects included PROJECT STREET, a documentary about the fusion of skate-boarding and street culture and SPECIAL THANKS TO ROY LONDON a HD documentary about the work and students of the famed acting coach directed by Christopher Monger.  It premiered at the 2005 Tribeca Film Festival to glowing reviews. 

Doug recently finished two pilots for television, the first a reality show entitled HOLLYWOOD P.I. the second a comedy called Leo The Lion. He is currently a producer on a documentary about the artist Robert Williams entitled I’d Rather Be Dead Than Mellow
